Ahhhh Easter so many memories…. Growing up remember being given sugar almonds for Easter, also looking back remember the adults used to play a kind of game. Who ever saw each other first and utter the words (balamente) had to buy the sugar almonds.

These days we have a variety of chocolate and our children are truly spoilt, but I still hold those memories, and being given these sugar almonds and they were yummy. Mum and Dad were very hard working people! Looking back in admiration at how, my Mum copped with raising 8 children looking after 2 old grandparents and and still found the time to irrigate our vegetable plots.

Dad was the bread winner he worked very hard to feed us children. His passion was music really, and at weekends that’s what he did played in a band his beloved music. When he was at home he played to us…. Really we were his home orchestra he used to get us to make sounds and he conducted us with great enthusiasm I can still hear the laughter and the noise. Oh! the blessed noise how I miss it.

Easter is more than chocolate or sugar almonds! For me Easter is for family get together or it should’ve been, but due to this difficult times its not going to happen. I did buy the Easter chocs for my babies as usual, lets hope that soon life will resume…..

I remember reading this Poem and I thought of my Island

Here on this Island

That is surrounded by the Atlantic

Here on this cliff

Listening to my sighs

The love of the sea

The hard rock shining

Like shimmering mirrors

The wind and sound

Of the waves beating the shore

The elements telling me

Whispering that time is nigh

And with a sigh

I am at last being released

From my Island of torment

But at the same time

looking forward to be with my love.

Oh How I have missed…..
