Walking or baking?

December for me is a month of nostalgia! It always takes me back to my childhood, my little house in Essex smells heavenly, just like the house that I and my siblings grew up in my Madeira our little paradise….. The scent of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and black treacle.

Mama baking all the goodies for Christmas I remember with found memories! First she measures for the broas de mel ie (black treacle cookies) and the butter ones too. I remember Mama getting us to roll little balls of dough and placing them on trays ready to be baked.

Then came the cakes! measuring the ingredients into a big basin no electric mixers like I use, she had to do all this baking by hand the house smells so delicious, The smell of all this baking carries for mils, because every house in the neighborhood was doing the same preparing for Christmas.

Now its my turn and it gives me lots of pleasure to keep the tradition going! I know that my girls and their cousins loves Vavo’s (Nana) cookies and it gives me a warm feeling to send them my little token of a time that I hold in my heart with a lot of love.

Now my house here in Essex my little corner of paradise, smells just like the old Homestead In my Island in the middle of the Atlantic!

Busy baking the cookies and my house smells just like I remember a past memory that I relieve every Christmas the heady scent of spices. Soon I’ll be boxing them and posting to my lovely nieces and their children, Of course my girls have their own box of goodies and what is left I share them to my friends.

I hope that my girls and my nieces will think on with the same found memories.

Wishing you all a very happy December keep safe and best wishes for a better heathier new year.
